The choice of the "sspE" promoter as a reporter of sigma-G activity is odd since, according to the authors of ref. 8 (who appear to have endorsed this paper), the "sspE" promoter has a weak selectivity, which is the major reason for the discrepancies betwen the results reported in ref. 8 and ref.20 and for the non-consensual view on the role of the "csfB" product.
